In this article addresses a research that aims to understand the use of the smart cell phone and it’s relation to the academic performance in students of high school in Zacatecas, México. We try to reflect on aspects that affect the teaching-learning process and that has to do with the use of electronic devices. The research is mixed. In the qualitative approach, the ethnographic method is used, using the techniques of participant observation, field diary, virtual observation and depth interviews. In the quantitative part, an instrument for data collection was applied to teachers working at that educational level.
The results of this research are relevant since it’s checked that the use of this technology in classroom without any academic purpose affects the teaching-learning process. It’s confirmed that the time spend by the students to use the cell phone is prolonged and because of this (non-academic) use they neglect many of their school activities.
