Abstract

Based on an exhaustive documentary investigation, the history and circumstances surrounding the shipwreck of the Santiagogalleon are described in detail. This galleon was a warship belonging to the Tierra Firme Fleet of 1658, which crashed on the reefs of Banco Chinchorro Bank in Quintana Roo, Mexico. It also argues in favor of identifying the famous Forty CannonWreck with the shipwreck of the Santiago galleon.
