Abstract

The main objective of this work is to give an overview of the social and geographical transformations that have occurred in the Tierra Caliente region, through the implementation of various economic activities. In order to better appreciate these changes, a recount is made of the history of the populations from the indigenous era to the present, making a conjunction of the historical study (what is said) and the landscape (what is seen) (Arnold, 2000: 42; Brunet, 1982: 487).

The observation of the elements that are recorded in the environment is the basis that will allow us to discover the past and understand the present of a group (Brunet, 1982: 489; Sauer, 1982: 353), that is why in this work we mention some of the geographical characteristics of some regions of Tierra Caliente, especially the municipality of Buena Vista, Michoacán.
