Abstract
Research has shown that since ancient times and in different parts of the world there have been different ways to intentionally alter the body, such as cephalic modifications, scarifications, perforations in different parts of the body, tattoos and dental modifications.
The most frequent hypotheses mention that the modifications in the denture could be a social or ideological emblem where it is associated that, the reproduction of dental forms was carried out with the purpose of obtaining certain resemblance with some pre-Hispanic gods or animals as symbols of power, strength and protection (Tibón 1972: 101-135).
