Intervención Arqueológica en la Catedral de Chihuahua

Abstract

An archaeological intervention in the Cathedral of Chihuahua was possible due to an inspection process due to the intervention of the Area of ​​Archaeological Monuments of the INAH Chihuahua, where the request for the participation of the Area of ​​Technical and Legal Protection of the archaeological heritage was requested, at the request of the archdiocese of Chihuahua of some modifications in the presbytery. Understanding that an excavation in the floors of religious buildings such as the cathedral can lead to the discovery of bone remains, the particular case of this intervention allowed the recovery of bone material, which was delivered to the academic body of physical anthropology of the School of Anthropology and History of Northern Mexico for osteological study. These remains were all located as part of a secondary context, incomplete and removed to their maximum depth, this excavation of only one unit of excavation, allowed to observe some previous modifications in the area of ​​the presbytery, it is possible to infer the times of said changes through graphic documents of the interior of the building as well as the descriptions of observing contemporary events of renovation or remodeling of the interior of the building.
