Abstract

Objective and method of study. A comparative, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out to determine the level of
knowledge about the prevention of sexually transmitted infections among adolescents of secondary and high school level in
Guadalupe, Zacatecas. The sample was made up of 32 individuals selected through a non-probabilistic quota sampling. To collect
the information, the questionnaire "Knowledge about the prevention of sexually transmitted infections" prepared by the study
authors was applied. The data were captured and processed in the statistical program SPSS version 26. Results. It is revealed
that 12.5% of the participants obtained a high level of general knowledge, 37.5% reached a medium level and 50% a low level.
When comparing the level of knowledge about the prevention of sexually transmitted infections according to the sex and
academic level of the adolescent, no significant differences were found (X2 = 5.0, p = 0.82 and X2 = 1.250, p = .53 respectively).
Conclusions. High school and high school adolescents have a low level of knowledge about the prevention of sexually
transmitted infections, which reflects the great need to generate more and better secondary strategies on sex education, which
allow this age group to have greater knowledge about this matter.
