Abstract
Por tierras no sabidas y tan estrañas. Geografía protohistórica de la costa noroccidental del Pacífico. La ruta de Nuño de Guzmán reports the process of conquest of the coastal plain of Nayarit and Sinaloa carried out by Nuño Beltrán de Guzmán and ends with the idea that this region was divided into five provinces: two on the north coast of Nayarit (Sentispac and Aztatlan) and three in Sinaloa (Chametla, Culiacan and Sinaloa). The authors carried out an exhaustive investigation in documents and letters written by the conquerors themselves, in addition to the task of walking the route on foot, in order to reveal that in fact, there were more pre-Hispanic provinces in this region, which existed at the time of the conquest.
