The present work seeks to provide elements and lay the foundations, in an introductory and provisional way, to approach the thought, life and work of Fray Francisco Frejes as one of the main intellectuals of Mexico at the beginning of the 19th century. Whose ideas helped build the ethical-political-theological identity of Catholic education as a core part of a civic, ethical and political education of young Mexicans of a fledgling country. Knowing the past allows us to understand the historical and cultural genealogy of a present whose plural and complex historicity makes possible other cultural imaginaries in contemporary Mexico, because as Michel Foucault (1991) has said: all history is history in and from the present.
