In the New Spain, the roads were widely traveled by muleteers, carters, peddlers, merchants, officers, soldiers, missionaries, among many other social actors who, in addition to moving from one place to another, had the need to rest during their long journeys. In this sense, the different roads, including the Camino Real Tierra Adentro, were accompanied by sheltered places such as posadas, mesones, ventas and haciendas. This article presents our collaboration to the project “Caracterización de Guadalupe A partir del análisis y reconstrucción de los procesos de asentamiento y desarrollo. Un estudio arqueohistórico sobre su cultura material." Directed by . PhD Adriana Macías Madero. We specifically deal with the Mesón de Godoy as an example of one of these resting places adjacent to the Camino Real that passes through Guadalupe, Zacatecas. In addition, this work will deal with the characterization of the inns as a place to spend the night with specific qualities, which gave a distinctive stamp to their spaces.
