Causas del consumo de alcohol en estudiantes de enfermería antes y durante pandemia COVID-19

Objective and study method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was developed with the aim of identifying the association between alcohol consumption, stress, anxiety and boredom in nursing students from a public university in Zacatecas before and during the covid-19 pandemic. The study population was 1,387 students, through a non-probabilistic sampling, 30 nursing students were selected, the data was processed and analyzed through the SPSS program. Results: 46.7% of the participants were women, 76.7% of the seventh semester, with a mean age of 21 years, 60% had ever consumed an alcoholic beverage, before the pandemic the students consumed from 1 to 2 drinks (50 %) and after the pandemic they consumed zero drinks (43.3%), also in a weekend before the pandemic they consumed from 4 to 6 drinks (33.3%) and after the pandemic they consumed 0 drinks (40.0%) , the students during the pandemic reported stress (50%), anxiety (56.7%), depression (56.7%) and boredom (56.7%), significant differences were found regarding the association of alcohol consumption in students and stress anxiety depression and boredom during the covid-19 pandemic since lower consumption averages were observed during the pandemic. Conclusions: there were no significant differences in the association of alcohol consumption by sex or by stress, anxiety, depression and boredom during the covid-19 pandemic, but significant differences were found before and during the pandemic, reporting lower consumption averages during the pandemic. which may derive from the home confinement of students.
