Abstract

The following text aims to make a brief essay about the rugged Sierra Gorda, which will be analyzed through the historical sources of the sixteenth to the eighteenth century. Although they coincide with the period of Spanish occupation, it is not the only purpose to know how the dominion was exercised towards the peoples indigenous, since it is considered that any attempt at colonization has implicit a resistance movement on the part of those who are the object of it.
Therefore, it also seeks to investigate the general panorama of the socio-ethnic composition and its latent rebellion to be conquered, from the early years of the Contact period until the end of the emancipatory movement of New Spain (Crespo and Cervantes, 1990; 87). Where there is an intermittent campaign of conquest by the viceregal authorities, since the peoples denominated as Chichimecas: ximpenses, pames and especially jonaces (Galaviz, 1996: 6) showed a sense of cultural identity and social organization until the late eighteenth century.
