The Double Otherness. Perspectives for the study of ethnicity in Archeology

Abstract

Conceptualizations around ethnicity have been a relevant and widely debated aspect as part of the analytical apparatus of anthropology, approached in different ways in accordance with the development of its theoretical perspectives and with important implications in the archaeological work, especially in relation to the relationship between indigenous peoples and archaeology. We present briefly a series of reflections derived from a bibliographic review of this topic with emphasis on the scope of ethnicity in the study of past societies, seen throughout the development of theoretical postures in archaeology.
