In this article we will talk about a very common phenomenon in several churches and chapels of the 16th century, in the states of Hidalgo, Michoacán, Querétaro, Puebla, Mexico City, among others, it is about the historical graffiti that is preserved in this type of places, as an example we will take an old 16th century Convent in the city of Tula de Allende. There are several examples preserved on its walls, columns, floors, stairs, etc. and they have survived the attacks of modernity that little by little has transformed this place. Therefore, we seek to address this visual expression and talk about the recognition and documentation research that is being carried out, thereby providing knowledge about the images that are still preserved, which although many people know of their existence, few care about their preservation, on the contrary they see the images as an element of bad taste that must be erased and instead replaced by something “more appropriate” for the type of place.
