Upon the arrival of the Spaniards, Lake Patzcuaro was the nucleus of the Tarascan State. Tzintzuntzan, Ihuatzio and Patzcuaro were the three centers of shared power, the first being the most important (Pollard, 1993: 29). Considering the impact that the arrival of Spaniards triggered, this research seeks to identify the technological continuities and changes occurred in the pottery production between the Late Postclassic (1200 – 1521 A. D.) and Early Colonial (1521 – 1620 A. D.) periods at the site, through of the characterization and contrast of the prehispanic and colonial operational chains, and their interpretation in the context of agency and materiality studies.
