Abstract

Reading comprehension contributes to adequate school achievement and development as an active and critical citizen, which is why several nations focus their efforts to make this progress occur. The OECD, through the PISA evaluation, determines the levels of achievement in Science, Mathematics and Reading at the national level. Mexico remains in the last places. In this same vein, the standardized diagnostic evaluation MEJOREDU is carried out and the results are just as discouraging as in the international exam.

With the intention of improving this situation, this research addresses a case study that shows the diagnostic results of the first phase of MEJOREDU in the 2023-2024 school year of the CEBAARE secondary school in Zacatecas, proceeding to the description of the various sessions of the educational project “Reading is flying”, designed and implemented in the institution to contribute to reading comprehension. Finally, the results of the second and final phase of the same evaluation in this school in the middle of the school year are shared. The discussion is provoked around the increase in the positive comprehension results obtained in the second measurement with a progress of up to 18% improvement.
