Abstract

ntroIntroduction: In the human diabetic state, alterations in the metabolism of Zinc and other trace elements are reported, confirming the need for a mineral balance to achieve a healthy state, since it plays an important role in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disorders, among other diseases. Objective: Toknow if zinc supplementation serves as a joint therapy for the control of blood glucose levels in obese adults. Method:An experimental descriptive cross -sectional study was carried out in obese people from the city of Chihuahua, Chih., Mexico. Prior informed consent, blood samples were collected with anticipated fasting for twelve hours at the beginning of the study and 60 days after the zinc supplementation intervention. Results: The sample was made up of 21 participants between 18 and 50 years of age, of which 66.6% correspond to women, of which 37.7% have a range of obesity grade III and 42.8% of men with grade III. II and III. A difference was found in blood glucose before and after zinc supplementation, which showed a slight but strong decrease. Conclusion:This research allowed us to recognize that a regular dose of zinc for several weeks activates in diabetics the production of the remaining insulin they need and manages to stabilize blood glucose levels.
