Abstract

The article addresses the conjunction and asymmetry of the formal and passional aspects in the works of Ramón López Velarde from the perspective of Octavio Paz expressed in the essay “The Path of Passion.” (“El camino de la pasión”). The main arguments articulated by Octavio Paz are analyzed and an attempt is made to qualify them, specify them and, where appropriate, object to them from the work of Ramón López Velarde itself, based on his poetry, his letters and the pair of proses “The defeat of the word” (“La derrota de la palabra”) and "Masterpiece" (“Obra maestra”).
