The idea of “patria” (homeland) in El libro rojo (1870), of Vicente Riva Palacio and Manuel Payno, is an imaginary ideological construction made by the mexican establishment, that is to say Mexican liberalism, trying to implement liberal nationalism in Mexican society of the last third of the 19th Century. To achieve this, they used some literary rhetoric strategies and History, creating a story about the country that continues having some influence on the nationalism of the current Mexico.
