Abstract

Objective: This study aims to identify in the literature the main complications associated with the use of peripherally inserted neonatal central catheters and the recommended nursing care . Methodology: This is an integrative review, in which the fo llowing databases were used: LILACS, PUBMED and SCIELO between 2010 and 2020 . Results: Among the complications associated with the use of PICC, the most prevalent were: obstruction, extravasation, phlebitis, traction catheter and rupture . Conclusion: It isconsidered that complications may be associated with the lack of training and scientific -technical knowledge of the nursing staff, which can be avoided through nursing care and the promotion of safe hospitalization of the newborn.
