Resumen
La enfermedad periodontal (EP) es una condición inflamatoria altamente prevalente que ha sido asociada a diferentes enfermedades. Diversos factores inmunológicos están involucrados en dicha asociación. Las células supresoras de origen mieloide (MDSC) son células mieloides inmaduras que suprimen la respuesta de células T, participan en la remodelación ósea y han sido involucradas en diferentes enfermedades. El objetivo del presente trabajo es revisar y discutir aspectos biológicos de las MDSC en el contexto de la EP y otras afecciones inflamatorias. Las MDSC se han analizado en modelos murinos de EP en asociación con otras afecciones y en tejido periodontal humano. Se ha reportado una mayor acumulación de MDSC en presencia de EP en asociación con obesidad, artritis y cáncer, así como exacerbación de las características clínicas de la enfermedad y en algunos casos las MDSC presentaron participación potencial en osteoclastogenesis. Las MDSC podrían representar un mecanismo bidireccional conectando a la EP con otros padecimientos inflamatorios.
