Resumen
Los terceros molares pueden presentar complicaciones, como pericoronitis e impactación, en las cuales participan procesos celulares como proliferación celular y apoptosis, que a su vez se han relacionado con lesiones epiteliales odontogénicas. Estudios sobre la expresión de proteínas que regulan la apoptosis, como BAX y Bcl-2, en folículos dentarios de terceros molares impactados y pericoronitis son escasos. Este estudio analizó clínica y radiográficamente casos de pacientes con terceros molares, y evaluó la expresión de BAX y Bcl-2 en folículos mediante inmunohistoquímica. Se encontró expresión no uniforme de BAX y Bcl-2 en los folículos con una intensidad de la expresión de BAX mayor en presencia de pericoronitis, mientras que la expresión de Bcl-2 fue menor. El análisis de otros marcadores de apoptosis podría ayudar a entender la importancia del proceso en complicaciones en terceros molares.
