Abstract
Introduction: Dental trauma is very common in preschool children. The severity varies according to the extent of the injury and the severity of the blow. Root fractures are rare injuries and occur in 2-4% of primary dentition. They are difficult to resolve and cause tooth loss in most cases. This fracture affects both the tooth and periodontal tissues and the upper incisors are generally the most affected. Objective: To present a clinical case of repair of a root fracture of the middle third in primary dentition. Case Description: Female patient, 4 years old, diagnosed with lateral dislocation and root fracture in O.D. 51 and 61, contusion of gum and upper lip. Treatment was tooth replacement and splinting with nylon thread for 4 weeks. Follow-up appointment at 6 months shows bone repair, pulp vitality and good function. Conclusions: It is essential to highlight the need for parents of patients who have suffered dental trauma to take as a priority measure to take their children to a dental consultation as soon as possible for a correct diagnosis and treatment in order to minimize the consequences that these accidents can cause to the teeth.
