Mexican Muralism, its Historical Development, and its Pragmatic Function in the Understanding of Concepts.

Abstract

Muralism is one of the most prominent artistic movements in our country, not only because of its pictorial richness, but also due to the complexity of its execution. It involves the fusion of architectural space with art, framing the messages it seeks to convey. Thus, mural art in Mexico serves as a large-scale medium for presenting ideas and concepts, aiming to spark reflection in viewers on complex topics such as nationalism, religious conquest, revolution, justice, and science, and its intrinsic relationship with art. Sometimes these themes are depicted in a raw and direct manner; other times, through abstract forms—but always with the intention of communicating and transcending. This article offers a brief overview of three specific moments in Mexican muralism, understanding it as a tool for disseminating knowledge and fostering the comprehension of complex ideas among the masses.
